One Win, One Loss on the Day for the Foresters

The Lake Forest softball team fell to Messiah University in their first game of the day, and then rallied to win their second game against Lakeland University on Friday.

The Foresters let up two runs in the first three innings in their game against Messiah. Most of the game was an intense pitchers duel until the sixth inning was a pitchers' duel.

Lake Forest was able to tie up the score in the bottom of the sixth when senior Hayley Boylan hit a single with the bases loaded. The game went into extra innings; ultimately, the Falcons were able to pull out the win with two unanswered runs scored in the top of the eighth.

In their second game of the day, the Foresters again fell behind when they let up a run in the first and second innings. With the score 2-0, senior Josie Klein singled to right field, advancing to second on the throw, while freshman Kelly Collins scored from second. Collins would tag home plate again in the top of the fourth when sophomore Angelle Bills doubled to right field, clearing Collins and freshman Kaylee Purgatorio off the bases.

The Muskies took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Foresters were able to tie and pass Lakeland in the top of the sixth. They tied the score with a sacrifice fly by Bills and then Collins scored the winning run off an error by Lakeland's second baseman.

Freshman pitcher Hannah Smith earned her first win of the season.

The Foresters wrap up their spring break trip on Saturday when they play Hiram College and the University of Southern Maine.
