Foresters Open Season with Wins Against Concordia

The Lake Forest softball team started out their season on a high note winning two games against Concordia University Chicago on Thursday. The Foresters defeated the Cougars 5-3 in the opener and 5-4 in game two.

Concordia took the lead in the first game, scoring a run in the third inning. Lake Forest brought the score to 4-1 in the following inning when senior Hailey Boylan singled through the right sided and brought junior Elena Chrisman home from second base. Then, with two outs and the bases loaded, sophomore Teagan Delarwelle cleared the bases with a single down the right field line; she was able to advance to third on a throwing error.

The final Forester run came in the bottom of the sixth when Boylan hit a solo homerun.

In the second game, the Foresters scored first. In the top of the second inning, freshman Cheyenne Pellettiere was able to get on base with a single up the middle, and then was moved to third after a ground out in the next at bat. Sophomore Angelle Bills singled to right field, bringing Pellettiere home.

The Courages tied up the score with a run in the bottom of the second. The Foresters were able take the lead again by scoring twice in the third and once more in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, pitcher freshman Hannah Smith walked the first three batters, loading the bases. She then struck out the next two, and the final batter hit into a fielder's choice.

Then, Concordia was able to tie the score up again with a run in the fifth and a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. Lake Forest answered those runs when senior Josie Klein tripled in the first at-bat of the inning. Freshman Kelly Collins hit into a fielder's choice, and Klein was able to score.

The Foresters travel to Florida next for their annual spring break trip, where they will play in The Spring Games in Clermont.
