Foresters Sweep MWC Performer of the Week Awards

Lake Forest College softball players Josie Klein and Maddie Webb were named Midwest Conference Position Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday.

The Foresters posted a pair of lopsided victories over Beloit College at home on Wednesday, swept visiting St. Norbert College on Saturday to clinch a spot in this weekend's MWC Championship Series, and split a doubleheader at Lawrence University on Sunday.

Klein was 9-for-16 at the plate on the week with two doubles, two triples, and three home runs. She also drew three walks, stole a pair of bases, scored six runs, and drove in nine. The junior center fielder homered and added at least one additional extra base hit in each of the three doubleheaders and extended her current hitting streak to 17 games. Klein is now batting .379 with a .747 slugging percentage on the year and leads Lake Forest with five home runs and 27 runs batted in.

Webb earned the victory in both of her appearances in the circle last week. She struck out four batters in two innings of relief as the Foresters prevailed 9-1 in six innings in game two against Beloit. The senior then went the distance in the opener on Saturday, taking the pitchers duel 3-1 and limiting St. Norbert to four base hits while striking out four in the contest. She also contributed at the plate, going 7-for-14 with three doubles on the week. Webb is now 7-1 with a 1.36 earned run average this season.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors.
