Lake Forest Splits Series with Ripon

The Lake Forest College softball team traveled to Ripon College on Saturday, May 1 for a doubleheader. The Foresters won the first game 10-0 and dropped the second game 13-1. Both games were decided in five innings.

The winning pitcher for the Foresters was Shaye Gauthier; it was her third win of the season and brings her record to 3-0. She had six strikeouts on the day and only allowed two hits. 

Senior Hannah Kalnicky started off the scoring for the Foresters with a two-run homerun in the top of the second; it was her first homerun of the season. Sophomore Elena Chrisman hit her second homerun of the season in the very next inning. Kalnicky batted in a run with a double to right center in the top of the fourth; and junior Josie Klein also hit a double, brining Kalnicky and senior Abby Ponder home. The top of the fifth was a big inning for the Foresters. Sophomore Melissa Manzo got on base with a triple and was brought home in the next at bat with a double from junior Carlie Mertz. Sophomore Brie Gauthier tripled to right field and plated two runs and was brought home, scoring the 10th and final run for the Foresters, when Kalnicky hit a sacrifice fly to left field. 

The second game of the series saw only one Forester run by Mertz off a single by Brie Gauthier. The Red Hawks scored six runs in the top of the of the first inning and another seven in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Meghan Joyce recorded the loss for Lake Forest.

The Foresters are now 17-5 on the season, and 9-2 in the Conference. They play again on Sunday, May 2 against Beloit College.
