Foresters Split Series with Green Knights

The Foresters traveled to De Pere, Wisconsin for a doubleheader against St. Norbert College on Sunday, April 18. They split the series losing the first game 3-2 and winning the second game 14-5 in six innings.

Lake Forest was on the board first and early in the top of the second with an RBI single by senior Maddie Webb. Sophomore Elena Chrisman and freshman Jenny Gibbs both recorded stolen bases during the game. Chrisman stole second and was the run batted in by Webb; Gibbs was pinching running for Webb when she stole second the fifth inning. Webb scored the second and final run in the seventh inning for the Foresters when she was batted in on a double by junior Josie Klein.

The Foresters let their bats sing in the second game of the series. Senior Shaye Gauthier led the team with five RBIs and two doubles on the day. She also pitched all six innings, allowing only five hits and striking out seven.

Junior Hayley Boylan had three RBIs and a double. She started the scoring for the Foresters with a double that drove in a run in the second inning; she would later reach home due to a throwing error by the Green Knights trying to get Klein out at first. St. Norbert answered the Foresters three run top of the second with a five-run bottom of the inning. Those would be their only runs of the game, however.

Lake Forest continued their impressive hitting with a triple by junior Carlie Mertz in the third; she would score on a passed ball, tying the game for the Foresters. Senior Hannah Kalnicky batted in the winning run during the fourth inning with a single, but the Foresters would not stop there. In the top of the fifth, Gauthier doubled bringing two runs home. And in the top of the sixth, a combination of good hitting, baserunning, and some errors by the Green Knights helped the Foresters clinch the win. Freshman Kasey Beck reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed senior Erin Karasewski to reach home; Mertz was able to advance to third on an error in the same play, and she would go on to score on Boylan's single two batters later. With only one out, Gauthier singled, bringing in two runs. During the next at-bat, sophomore Melissa Manzo singled, batting in the 14th and final run of the game for the Foresters.

Lake Forest is now 12-4 and 3-1 in Conference play.

The team competes again on Saturday, April 24 at Beloit College; the doubleheader begins at 1 PM.
