The Lake Forest College softball team played its first games on the new artificial turf of Mohr Field on Sunday but fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 7-6 and 8-1.

After no runs were scored in the first inning of the opener, the Pointers plated two in the second and four in the third to take a 6-0 lead.

The Foresters came back, scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth and twice in the sixth to pull even. Sophomore leftfielder Brie Gauthier and senior shortstop Hannah Kalnicky each drove in a run in the fifth and the rally's other two runs came home on errors. Junior centerfielder Josie Klein had a pair of hits in the contest, including a game-tying two-run double in the sixth.

Unfortunately the home team's comeback did not result in a victory as Stevens Point regained the lead in the top of the seventh and held on for the win.

Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Pointers tallied six unearned runs. They tacked on one more in the fourth and another in the sixth.

The Foresters' only run of the game was scored by Klein on a ground ball by junior pitcher Meghan Joyce.

The losses evened Lake Forest's record on the young season to 2-2 while Stevens Point improved to 6-2.

The Foresters will host Elmhurst College on Friday with game one of the doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.
