Junior Hannah Kalnicky was 5-for-9 at the plate on the evening as Lake Forest defeated Buena Vista University 3-1 before falling 10-9 in eight innings to the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday at The Dome in Rosemont, Illinois.

Kalnicky was 3-for-4 against Buena Vista and singled in senior Sydney Wyatt to give the Foresters the lead in the top of the first inning. A fielders choice off the bat of sophomore Hailey Boylan scored another run and Kalnicky came home on an error, providing senior pitcher Missy Dieckman-Meyer with a three-run lead before she stepped into the circle.

Dieckman-Meyer allowed just one run on two hits in the contest. She struck out eight batters and walked five in the complete game victory, raising her record on the season to 2-0.

Kalnicky's seventh-inning double was Lake Forest's only extra base hit of the contest and freshman Brie Gauthier matched her with two of the team's seven singles.

The Foresters fell behind early against Stout, surrendering three runs in the top of the first inning. After getting one back on a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame, Lake Forest did not score again until the sixth.

Trailing 5-1 after five-and-a-half innings, the Foresters got run-scoring singles from Wyatt and junior Shaye Gauthier and a third tally came home on a fielders choice groundout by junior Nicole Schussler.

Stout appeared to have put the game out of reach after scoring four times in the top of the seventh, but Lake Forest came back again and tied the game with a five-run rally in its half of the inning. Wyatt plated the first three on a bases-loaded double and she came home on an error when Shaye Gauthier beat out a bunt single. With two outs and the bases loaded, freshman Melissa Manzo drew a walk to tie the score and send the contest to extra innings.

The Blue Devils managed to score a run in the top of the 10th and Lake Forest was unable to match it in the bottom.

The Foresters are now 4-2 on the young season. Buena Vista fell to 4-5 and Stout came out on top in its season opener.

Lake Forest will travel to Florida on Sunday and play a pair of games on Monday, taking on Wisconsin Lutheran College at 11:15 a.m. (ET) and Millikin University at 1:30 p.m. (ET).
