Five Foresters Earn All-MWC Honors

The 2019 All-Midwest Conference Softball Teams were announced at the conclusion of the MWC Tournament on Saturday and five players from Lake Forest College were among the honorees.

Senior outfielder Maria Zepeda was a First Team All-MWC selection for the third year in a row. She is hitting .351 on the season and ranks among the top 10 in the league with a .595 slugging percentage, .519 on-base percentage, 33 runs scored, 66 total bases, 27 walks, and 14 stolen bases.

After earning First-Team All-MWC honors as a freshman and Second Team accolades a year ago, junior first baseman Riley Frisbie joined Zepeda on the First Team this season. She is batting .269 with four home runs and 24 runs batted in and leads the league defensively with 302 putouts.

Senior pitcher Kyra Lenzi, senior shortstop Alyssa Grimm, and sophomore second baseman and pitcher Shaye Gauthier were announced as Second Team All-MWC honorees. Lenzi's 2.30 earned run average ranks fourth in the league and she is 9-3 with a pair of saves on the season after earning a victory on Friday at the MWC Tournament. Grimm is hitting .311 and is tied-for-fourth in the conference with six homes runs and 33 runs batted in. Gauthier sent the Foresters to the NCAA Tournament with a walk-off homer in Saturday's MWC Tournament Championship Game and now leads the team with a .375 batting average and is tied-for-fourth in the league with 11 doubles. She is also 4-2 in the circle this season.

Lake Forest has now had at least five players earn some level of all-conference honors in five consecutive seasons.

The Foresters are 24-15 on the year after winning the MWC Tournament over the weekend. They also captured the league's regular season title with a conference record of 14-4.
