Sophomore Hannah Kalnicky had a two-hit game in her return to the lineup but Lake Forest was defeated 2-0 in the opener and 5-4 in nine innings in game two of a doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan University on Thursday.

Kalnicky singled through the left side of the infield to lead off the second inning of game two and drove in a pair of runs with a base hit through the right side in the third.

Forester senior centerfielder Maria Zepeda was hit by a pitch to lead off the contest and scored on an error later in the first inning. She singled with two outs in the fourth, stole second, and scored again on a single by senior shortstop Alyssa Grimm to make the score 4-0.

Illinois Wesleyan, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the sixth to tie the score. The game ended in the bottom of the ninth on the Titans' third home run of the game and fourth on the day.

Grimm and senior third baseman Emma Varsbergs joined Kalnicky with two hits apiece and Lake Forest out-hit the home team 10-8 in the contest.

The Foresters went hitless and had just two baserunners in the opener.

The Titans plated the game's first run on a homer in the second inning and added an insurance score in the bottom of the sixth. They won despite managing just four hits off Lake Forest junior Missy Dieckman-Meyer, who struck out four batters without issuing a walk in the game.

The losses dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 7-9 while Illinois Wesleyan improved to 12-3.

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play Saturday at Lawrence University. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 p.m.
