Missy Dieckman-Meyer Named Forester Athlete of the Week

Lake Forest College pitcher Missy Dieckman-Meyer was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after recording two victories and a save in the previous three days.

Dieckman-Meyer entered Monday's game against Wheaton College with Lake Forest leading 11-9 but with runners on first and third and no outs in the top of the seventh inning. The junior escaped the jam without the Thunder scoring for the first save of her career.

The Foresters needed eight innings to defeat Montclair State University 6-2 on Tuesday and Dieckman-Meyer went the distance, allowing just one earned run on five base hits. She struck out eight Red Hawks while walking just one in the contest.

Dieckman-Meyer was even more dominant in a 1-0 triumph over former Midwest Conference rival Carroll University on Wednesday, blanking the Pioneers 1-0 on just two base hits. She struck out a pair of batters, walked one, and did not allow a runner to reach second base in the game. The Foresters pulled out the win on a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Dieckman-Meyer finished the Foresters' first three days of competition at The Spring Games in Florida with an earned run average of 0.44 and 11 strikeouts against only two walks over 16 innings in the circle. Opponents had just six singles and a double for a .127 batting average against her.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
