Foresters Finish Off Opening Weekend with Pair of Victories

Lake Forest defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 6-3 and Lakeland University 9-7 on Sunday at The Ballpark at Rosemont.

The Foresters scored all six of their runs in game one in the third inning. They had just two base hits during the rally, the first a run-scoring bunt single by senior shortstop Alyssa Grimm and the second a a ground ball off the bat of sophomore rightfielder Maddie Webb that plated the final run of the frame. Grimm, Webb, and senior centerfielder Maria Zepeda each stole a base and the Falcons committed four errors in the inning.

Grimm had two of the team's four base hits in the contest.

Sophomore pitcher Shaye Gauthier kept Concordia Wisconsin off the scoreboard until surrendering three runs in the top of the sixth inning and earned the victory. Freshman Meghan Joyce got the last four outs to earn the save in her collegiate debut.

Lake Forest had nine hits and took advantage of eight Lakeland errors in the second game of the afternoon. Three of the hits came from senior leftfielder Diamond Owens and two from Zepeda.

Grimm singled in junior first baseman Riley Frisbie to give the Foresters the early lead in the top of the first inning. She scored on a ground ball by junior catcher Sydney Wyatt. Lake Forest scored three more runs in the second, the first on a groundout by Grimm. Two more scored on a passed ball and throwing error by the Muskies' catcher. Owens singled in Webb in the third, giving the Foresters a 6-0 lead.

The Muskies scored all seven of their runs with two outs in the bottom of the third. Forester senior pitcher Kyra Lenzi came in and got the final out of the frame and added four scoreless innings to earn the victory. She allowed four base hits and struck out three without issuing a walk.

Zepeda scored the tying run on a single by Frisbie in the fourth and the Foresters regained the lead on an error in the fifth. Webb came home with an insurance run on a single by Owens in the seventh.

Lake Forest is now 2-2 on the year. It was the season opener for Concordia Wisconsin and Lakeland fell to 0-2.

The Foresters' next 10 games will be played during the team's Spring Break trip to Florida, beginning with contests against Wheaton College and Stockton University on Monday, March 11.
