Lake Forest College softball player Maria Zepeda was named Forester Athlete of the Week for the second time this season on Thursday after helping lead her team to a 7-1 record in the last seven days.

Zepeda, a junior centerfielder, led the team's regulars with a .462 batting average, .846 slugging percentage, .588 on-base percentage, 10 runs scored, and 10 batted in during the week. Among her 12 base hits were three doubles, two triples, and a home run and she also drew six walks, including two with the bases loaded, and was hit by a pitch twice.

The week began with a pair of victories over visiting St. Norbert College, the defending Midwest Conference champion, on Thursday and Zepeda had a pair of hit in each contest, including a three-run homer in the opener. Over the weekend she had two doubles and a single in Saturday's split at Illinois College and scored three times in a sweep at Monmouth College on Sunday. Lake Forest routed host Beloit College 7-1 and 14-3 on Wednesday with Zepeda tripling twice, drawing four walks, and recording her second three-hit game of the week.

Zepeda is now hitting a team-high .402 and reaching base at a .584 clip this season. She also paces the Foresters with 36 runs scored and is tied for the team lead with 25 runs batted in from her leadoff spot in the lineup.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Zepeda also earned the award on March 15 and once last year.
