Lake Forest College softball player Maria Zepeda was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for her performance in the team's first four games in Florida during Spring Break.

Zepeda, a junior centerfielder and the team's lead-off hitter, reached base safely in eight of 14 plate appearances and at least once in each of the four contests. In addition to racking up four base hits, including a double and a triple against Delaware Valley University on Tuesday, she drew a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch twice. Zepeda has also scored three runs and driven in two.

The Foresters blanked the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth 2-0 before falling 7-5 to Concordia University Wisconsin on Monday. The team posted a pair of victories on Tuesday, defeated Delaware Valley 15-0 in five innings and edging out St. Mary's College (Ind.) 3-1. Lake Forest is now 6-2 and Zepeda has reached base safely in all eight games. She leads the squad with a .571 on-base percentage on the year.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Zepeda also earned the award once last season.
