The Lake Forest College softball team had its season come to an end with a 9-4 loss to Cornell College at the Midwest Conference Tournament on Saturday.

The game went back-and-forth early, with the Rams scoring once in the top of the first and the Foresters twice in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore centerfielder led off the Lake Forest half with a walk and established a new program record by stealing her 22nd base of the season. Sophomore leftfielder Abby King drew a walk and both runners came around to score on a two-out triple by sophomore third baseman Alyssa Grimm.

Cornell regained the advantage with a pair of runs in the top of the second and the Foresters once again responded with two in their half of the inning. Zepeda singled in senior rightfielders Sam Rosenfeld with the tying run and, two batters later, senior pitcher Jenny McTague came home on a wild pitch.

Lake Forest was unable to answer the Rams' two-run third inning and Cornell pulled away with three in the fifth before tacking on one more in the seventh.

The Foresters, who were attempting to claim their fourth consecutive MWC Tournament title, finished the season with a 22-16 overall record. Cornell advanced to take on the league's regular season champion and tournament host St. Norbert College but was defeated in the championship. They finished the year 28-10.

Rosenfeld and McTague are Lake Forest's only seniors. They have helped lead the team to a 115-51 record over the last four years.
