Freshman first baseman Riley Frisbie racked up five hits, including two doubles and a home run, as the Lake Forest College softball team prevailed 6-1 and 7-1 at Lawrence University on Saturday.
After a leadoff double by sophomore centerfielder Maria Zepeda in the first inning of game one, Frisbie belted a home run over the right field fence to give the visitors the early lead. It was Frisbie's team-high sixth round-tripper of the season.
Frisbie also singled to start the third inning and freshman pinch-runner Tory Parrott eventually came home on a double by junior second baseman Jillian Rashid. The Foresters scored again in the frame when sophomore leftfielder Abby King raced home on a passed ball.
Rashid also drove in Lake Forest's fifth run of the contest when she singled in Frisbie, who had doubled, in the fourth.
After the Vikings finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth, the Foresters regained their five-run lead with a tally in the top of the seventh. King led off with the team's fourth double of the game and came around to score on a base hit by freshman catcher Sydney Wyatt.
Lake Forest senior pitcher Jenny McTague allowed five hits and three walks while striking out a pair of batter in the complete game victory. She improved her earned run average on the season to 2.20.
Forester freshman Missy Dieckman-Meyer was equally effective in game two, also limiting the Vikings to a single run in seven inning. She surrendered six base hits but did walk a batter while striking out five.
The visitors took the early lead once again with three runs in the top of the first. Zepeda walked to lead off the game and Frisbie was hit by a pitch for the seventh time this season, tying the program record total set by Zepeda a week ago. King bunted the runners over and Zepeda beat the throw home on a ground ball off the bat of Rashid. Sophomore designated player Alyssa Grimm followed with a run-scoring fielder's choice groundout and, after stealing second, scored on a double by Wyatt.
Frisbie's third run batted in of the doubleheader came in the second inning when she singled in senior rightfielder Sam Rosenfeld, who had walked to lead off the frame.
Already ahead 4-0 the Foresters broke the game open with three more runs in the fourth. A double by Frisbie, her fifth hit of the afternoon, put runners on second and third with on out. King drove in both runners with a base hit up the middle and, after a double by Rashid, she came home on a single to left field by Grimm.
Back-to-back doubles by Lawrence in the fifth broke up Dieckman-Meyer's shutout bid and the home team had runners on second and third with two outs in the inning. Dieckman-Meyer escaped the jam and retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh to secure the victory.
Lake Forest is now 12-10 overall and 5-3 in Midwest Conference play this season. Lawrence fell to 12-14 overall and 3-7 in the league.
The Foresters will continue conference play against Beloit College at home next Wednesday. The doubleheader will begin at 3:00 p.m.
