Lake Forest College softball player Maria Zepeda was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after reaching base safely a total of 15 times in the team's last six games.

Zepeda, a sophomore centerfielder, belted a leadoff home run in the Foresters' home opener against the University of Wisconsin-Stout last Friday. It was the first of her three base hits and three runs scored in the game and the home team prevailed 6-4. Lake Forest took game two 8-2 and Zepeda was 1-for-3 with two runs scored in the contest.

Lake Forest was defeated 8-3 twice at Illinois Wesleyan University on Sunday. Zepeda had a hit in both contests, including her third home run of the year, and also scored a run in each game.

On Tuesday the Foresters swept a doubleheader at home against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the 21st-ranked team in the nation. Lake Forest took the opener 7-0 and game two 4-3. Zepeda reached base on seven of eight plate appearances in the two games combined, singling twice, walking three times, and getting hit by a pair of pitches. She scored three times on the day, including the first of two runs on a walk-off single in the final inning of the second game.

Zepeda finished the week hitting .471 (8-for-17) with a slugging percentage of .824 and on-base percentage of .625. She also belted two home runs, walked four times, scored 10 runs, and stole four bases.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
