Jessi Werner Earns Seventh Career MWC Pitcher of the Week Award

Lake Forest College softball player Jessi Werner was named Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after earned all three of her team's victories over the weekend.

Werner, a senior, pitched into the sixth inning in the Foresters' 8-3 victory at Cornell College on Saturday. She struck out six batters and allowed just one earned run in the contest.

Lake Forest posted a doubleheader sweep at Grinnell College on Sunday, taking the opener 4-0 and game two 3-1 in eight innings. Werner tossed her program record-tying 15th career shutout in the first game, striking out nine batters and allowing just three hits along the way. She also came on in relief to get the final five outs, including two by strikeout, in game two.

Werner has won her last nine decisions and is now 13-4 with a 2.45 earned run average on the year. She has also struck out 123 batters in 108.2 innings.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's director of media and information. Werner also earned the award on March 14 and a total of five times during her first three seasons.
