Senior catcher Alex Hemmer was 4-for-6 with three doubles on the day but the Forester softball team, ranked 19th in the nation, was defeated 6-1 and 5-1 at Piedmont College on Tuesday.

Hemmer's first double of the day drove in sophomore outfielder Sydney Gardner with the visitors' only run in the opener. Gardner had tripled with two outs and her run made the score 6-1 in the top of the third inning and it remained that way the rest of the contest.

Piedmont had taken the lead on a two-out double in the bottom of the first inning before taking advantage of a couple of Forester errors to plate five in the second.

The home team also scored first in game two, although the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. Lake Forest tied the score in the top of the sixth when Hemmer doubled with one out and senior first baseman Sally Snarski singled in sophomore pinch-runner Callie Schaser to make the score 1-1.

The Lions, however, rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth on back-to-back two-out doubles and held on for the victory.

The Foresters are now 0-4 this season while Piedmont improved to 8-4.

Lake Forest will travel to Columbus, Georgia, to compete in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Classic this weekend. The Foresters will take on Alma College Friday afternoon at 2:30 (EST) and the University of St. Thomas at 5:00 (EST). They will conclude pool play against Methodist University Saturdya morning at 10:00 (EST).
