Lake Forest College softball player Alex Hemmer was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after batting .462 in a pair of doubleheaders earlier in the week.
Hemmer, a sophomore who caught each of the team's four games, belted a towering two-run homer in Lake Forest's 8-1 victory in game two of a doubleheader against visiting Wheaton College on Monday. She also had a base hit and seven putouts behind the plate in the game.
The Foresters fell 5-4 and 4-3 in 10 innings at the University of Chicago, the nation's 21st-ranked team, on Tuesday. Hemmer was 1-for-3 with a walk in the opener and 3-for-4 with another home run, her fourth of the year, in game two. She also threw out a pair of baserunners trying to steal and was in the middle of a 1-2-3 double play to escape a ninth-inning jam.
Hemmer is now batting .323 and has driven in 22 runs in her 19 appearances this season.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
