Jessi Werner Named MWC Pitcher of the Week

Lake Forest College softball player Jessi Werner was named Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after earning the win in both games of the Foresters' doubleheader sweep at Cornell College on Saturday.

Werner, a freshman, pitched all seven innings in the opener, a 3-1 Forester triumph. She allowed juts four base hits, struck out three batters, and issued a pair of walks in the contest.

Lake Forest trailed 5-0 in game two but plated four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Werner entered the contest in the bottom of the frame and walked the first batter she faced. She retired the next nine in order, however, and was credited with the victory when the Foresters scored twice in the top of the seventh.

After allowing just one run in 10 innings at Cornell, Werner is 4-4 with a 3.28 earned run average this season. She has struck out 34 batters and walked 11 in 47 innings of work.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director.
