Foresters Fall Twice on Final Day in Florida

The Lake Forest College softball team was edged out 1-0 by Otterbein University and defeated 12-0 by Rowan University, the 20th-ranked team in the nation, on Saturday. The Foresters finished their Spring Break trip with a 4-6 record.

Lake Forest out-hit Otterbein 5-4 but a pair of doubles in the top of the sixth inning brought home the only run of the game for the Cardinals.

Forester freshman Kaleigh Ambrose struck out four batters and did not issue a walk in five-and-two-thirds innings of work. Classmate Jessi Werner retired all five batters she faced, including three by strikeout, to prevent any further scoring.

The first two innings of Lake Forest's second game of the day were also scoreless but Rowan erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third and seven more in the fourth.

Lake Forest sophomore Whitney Leiderman and freshman catcher Alex Hemmer had a base hit in each contest.

It was Otterbein's first game of 2013 and Rowan raised its record to 5-3.

The Foresters will play a doubleheader at Wheaton College on Saturday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m. The team will play its first home games of the season the following Monday (April 1) against Elmhurst College. That doubleheader will begin at 3:00 p.m.
