Softball Wins First Game Before Losing Second in Doubleheader with Elmhurst

Sophomore outfielder Nora Logue was 2-for-3 in each game as Lake Forest split a non-conference doubleheader with Elmhurst on Friday. The Foresters (7-13) won the first game 10-9 before losing the second game 13-4.

In the first game, Lake Forest trailed 2-0 entering the top of the second inning before scoring seven runs in the top of the second to take the lead, which they would never relinquish. Elmhurst (15-5) rallied with three runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but the Foresters added two runs in between to remain ahead.

Senior Cami Daun got the start in the first game and gave up two earned runs and five hits in three innings before Molly Thomsen and Leslie Harshey came in relief. Harshey picked up the win with three innings of work, giving up three earned runs, five hits in three innings as well.

Along with Logue, junior Nikki Miller and freshman Alyssa Vechiola were also 2-for-3 while sophomore Sam Ritsema was 2-for-4. Freshmen Jessica Tucker and Whitney Leiderman each contributed two RBI in the game.

In the night cap, the game was tied 2-2 at the end of the first inning and the Foresters took a 4-2 lead in the top of the second before Elmhurst belted out five runs in the bottom of the second for a 7-4 lead. The Foresters did not score again in the game.

Thomsen took the loss in the second game, giving up six earned runs and 11 hits in three innings. Harshey came in relief and pitched 1.1 innings, facing eight batters and giving up two earned runs on two hits.

Logue was 2-for-3 while Miller, Ritsema and Leiderman were each 1-for-3 for the Foresters.

Lake Forest is off until next weekend when it hosts the 2012 Midwest Conference Softball Classic on Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15 at the Waukegan Sports Park in Waukegan, Ill.
