Foresters Swept by the University of Chicago

The Lake Forest College softball team was defeated 13-3 and 8-1 by visiting University of Chicago on Saturday. Forester sophomore outfielder Ashley Cuthbert belted her second home run of the season.

Cuthbert's blast came with two outs in the third inning of game one and cut the Chicago lead to 5-3. Junior catcher Danielle Gore started the rally with a two-out double and freshman shortstop Sam Ritsema drew a base on balls. Cuthbert then caught up with a high fastball and her line drive eventually landed well beyond the left field fence.

Unfortunately for the Foresters, that concluded their scoring for the game. The Maroons plated at least one run in every inning and had three in the second, fifth, and seventh frames.

Chicago also jumped out to the early lead in game two with four runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Lake Forest got one back in the botom of the frame when Gore stole second and the throw from the catcher got past the Chicago shortstop, scoring freshman outfielder Mindy Runge.

The visitors tacked on one more run in the third inning, another in the fifth, and two in the sixth.

The Foresters will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Robert Morris University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
