Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk Repeats as MWC Player of the Year

Lake Forest College men's tennis player Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk was named Midwest Conference Player of the Year on Friday. The senior also earned the honor in 2022, the first year the award was presented.

As he has throughout his collegiate career, Vyshyvanyuk played at the top of the singles and doubles lineups for the Foresters in 2022-23. He went 5-1 in singles and posted the same record with sophomore Daniel Tulchinskiy in doubles against the other six teams in the league. Overall, he was 16-5 in singles and 16-7 in doubles.

Vyshyvanyuk, who was ranked 23rd in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association last Friday, avenged his only loss against a conference opponent in the finals of the MWC Individual Tournaments on Sunday. After falling 6-4 to the region's 18th-ranked player in the opening set, he rolled 6-1 in the second and 6-2 in the third to repeat as the league's #1 singles champion. He is the first Forester since 1999 to claim multiple conference titles at the top spot in the lineup.

This week he was ranked sixth in Region VIII in the NCAA Division III Regional Rankings.

Vyshyvanyuk owns program records for career victories at #1 singles and #1 doubles and his 110 wins overall are the fourth-highest total in team history. He will graduate next weekend having won 83.8 percent of his singles matches and 71.6 percent of doubles contests over the last four years.
