#1 Singles Title for Vyshyvanyuk and Seven Runner-Up Finishes at MWC Individual Tournaments

Lake Forest College men's tennis player Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk repeated at #1 singles champion and Foresters reached the final at seven of the other eight positions in the lineup at the Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments on Sunday.

Vyshyvanyuk, a senior ranked 23rd in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, faced the top player from Grinnell College, who is ranked 18th, in the final. After dropping the first set 6-4, he took the second 6-1 and third 6-2 to become the first Forester since 1999 to capture multiple conference titles at #1 singles. 

Each of Lake Forest's other five singles players posted runner-up finishes to earn Second Team All-MWC accolades. Sophomore Daniel Tulchinskiy competed at #2, freshman George Ciuca at #3, freshman Ian Villardi Venturini Barbosa at #4, sophomore Kyle Lassen at #5, and senior Jacob Tilton at #6. Ciuca was the closest to joining Vyshyvanyuk as a First Team honoree, falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the final.

The Foresters added finals appearances at #2 and #3 doubles. Ciuca teamed with junior Eduardo Manuitt on an 8-3 triumph in the semifinals at #2 while VIllardi Venturini Barbosa and Lassen prevailed 8-2 at #3. Both tandems fell in the final and were named Second Team All-MWC.

In addition to receiving accolades for his performance over the weekend, Lassen was also presented with the MWC Elite 20 Award for possessing the highest cumulative grade point average of any player at the event. Five Foresters have now earned the award for their respective sport in 2022-23.

Lake Forest was also the runner-up in the MWC Team Tournament on Friday and finished the season with an overall record of 11-9.
