Sweeps of Lawrence and Ripon Land Lake Forest in Second Place in MWC

The Forester men's tennis team closed out the regular season with convincing 9-0 victories at Lawrence University and Ripon College on Saturday.

Lake Forest sophomore Daniel Tulchinskiy did not drop a game in either of his matches at #2 singles. He also combined with senior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk to defeat Lawrence's top doubles team 8-2 and Ripon's 8-1. Vyshyvanyuk was also dominating at the top of the singles lineup, winning 6-0, 6-0 in the first match of the day and 6-1, 6-0 in the second.

Freshmen George Ciuca and Ian Villardi Venturini Barbosa and sophomore Kyle Lassen were also 4-0 on the day. Ciuca and junior Eduardo Manuitt teamed up at #2 doubles, where they defeated the Vikings 8-2 and the Red Hawks 8-6. Playing at #3 singles, Ciuca added a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at Lawrence before taking both sets 6-4 at Ripon. Villardi Venturini Barbosa and Lassen rolled 8-1 in both matches at #3 doubles. The former also posted 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1 victories at #4 singles while the latter came out on top 6-1, 6-3 at Lawrence and 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 at Ripon.

The Foresters' #3 singles position was split between senior Jacob Tilton and freshman Ryan Lowe. Tilton went first and edged out his Viking counterpart 6-4, 7-5 and Lowe did not drop a game against the Red Hawks.

Lake Forest is now 10-8 overall and finished 5-1 in Midwest Conference play, good for second place in the league standings. Lawrence and Ripon both fell to 2-3 in the league and were scheduled to play each other Saturday night.

The Foresters will travel to Peoria, Illinois, and take on Cornell College Friday morning at 10:00 in the semifinals of the four-team MWC Tournament. The semifinal winners will remain at The Clubs at River City for the final Friday afternoon. The MWC Individual Tournaments will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the same venue.
