Narrow Victory for Lake Forest over Greenville in Spring Break Opener

The Forester men's tennis team edged out Greenville University 5-4 on Monday in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The match began with an 8-5 victory for Lake Forest freshmen George Ciuca and Ian Villardi Venturini Barbosa at #2 doubles. The Foresters quickly added to their lead when senior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk and sophomore Daniel Tulchinskiy finished off an 8-6 triumph at #1.

The Panthers closed out doubles with a tiebreaker win at #3 and the match was tied after they earned the opening point of singles play at #2.

The next four matches were decided by third set super tiebreakers and the first two went to the Foresters in comeback fashion. Ciuca came out on top 5-7, 6-3, (10-4) at #3 and Villardi Venturini Barbosa prevailed 1-6, 7-5, (10-8) at #4. Greenville responded with victories at #1 and #5, leaving the result of the match up to #6, where sophomore Kyle Lassen won the first set in a tiebreaker before rolling 6-0 in the second.

Lake Forest is now 3-2 and Greenville 8-5 this year.

The Foresters will continue their Spring Break trip against Dickinson College Tuesday evening at 5:00 (ET).
