Foresters Claim MWC Title at #1 Doubles, Add Pair of Runner-Up Finishes

The second and final day of the 2022 Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments was Sunday. Lake Forest doubles teams reached the final at all three spots in the lineup and captured the title at #1.

The Foresters' top tandem of junior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk and freshman Daniel Tulchinskiy went undefeated in league play during the regular season to earn the top seed in Sunday's bracket. After a bye in the quarterfinals, they rolled 8-1 against the best from Lawrence University to reach the championship match. Taking on the their counterparts from Grinnell for the second time this weekend, they posted an 8-3 victory to secure the title.

In addition to their accomplishments in doubles, Vyshyvanyuk captured a conference championship at #1 singles on Saturday and Tulchinskiy was presented with the MWC Newcomer of the Year award Sunday morning.

Lake Forest had the runners-up at each of the other two positions in the lineup. Junior Jacob Tilton and sophomore Eduardo Manuitt won 8-0 in the quarterfinals and 8-1 in the semifinals before falling 8-3 to Grinnell in the final at #2. The Foresters' #3 team of senior Zach Cho and freshman Kyle Lassen prevailed 8-2 and 8-0 before also dropping an 8-3 decision in the final.

It was the final competition of the year for Lake Forest, which will lose Cho and fellow senior Oliver Gallego to graduation in May.
