Vyshyvanyuk Wins MWC Title at #1 Singles, Three Other Foresters are Runners-Up

Competition at the six singles spots in the lineup was conducted at the Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments on Saturday and four Foresters competed in the finals. The event is being played at Hitters SportsPlex in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Junior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk became the program's fifth conference champion at #1 singles since 2012. After receiving an opening round bye as the top seed, he doubled up the top player from Lawrence University 6-3 in both sets of their semifinal match. A 6-4, 6-3 triumph over his counterpart from MWC champion Grinnell College in the final solidified his status as the best player in the league this season.

Junior Jacob Tilton, sophomore Eduardo Manuitt, and freshman Kyle Lassen were the runners-up at #4, #5, and #6 singles, respectively. After dropping a total of just seven games in the quarterfinals and semifinals combined, they were each defeated by players from Grinnell in the finals. Manuitt was the only one of the three to take a set against the Pioneers, falling 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 at #5.

Forester freshman Anele Mayiga filled in at #2 singles and rolled 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals before being edged out 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8) in the semifinals. Senior Zach Cho had similar results at #3, prevailing 6-2 in both sets in his first match before being denied a trip to the finals by a 7-6 (7-5), 4-6. 6-1 defeat.

The event's doubles competition will be conducted on Sunday.
