Foresters Blank Ripon, Fall to Grinnell at MWC Championship Tournament

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team rolled 5-0 against Ripon College in the semifinals of the 2022 Midwest Conference Championship Tournament on Friday before falling 5-1 to Grinnell College in the final. The event was played at Hitters SportsPlex in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Junior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk and sophomore Daniel Tulchinskiy did not drop a game against Ripon. After prevailing 8-0 atop the doubles lineup, they clinched the match by posting 6-0, 6-0 victories at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. 

Junior Jacob Tilton and sophomore Eduardo Manuitt won 8-1 at #2 doubles while senior Zach Cho and freshman Kyle Lassen defeated the Red Hawks' #3 tandem 8-2.

Lake Forest players had won the first set in all four unfinished singles matches.

The Foresters fell to Grinnell in two of the three doubles matches. Lake Forest's point came at #1, where Vyshyvanyuk and Tulchinckyi doubled up the Pioneers' best duo 8-4.

Grinnell won at the bottom three spots in the singles lineup. Vyshyvanyuk led 6-2, 5-2 when the contest ended.

The Foresters will finish the season with an overall record of 12-9 while Grinnell, the 19th-ranked team in the Central Region, will enter the NCAA Division III Tournament at 14-11.

Both teams will compete in the MWC Individual Tournaments at the same facility on Saturday and Sunday.
