Foresters Split MWC Matches in Iowa

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team went 1-1 in Midwest Conference competition in Iowa on Saturday, rolling to a 9-0 victory at Cornell College in the morning before falling 7-2 at Grinnell College later in the day.

Forester junior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk was undefeated on the day. He and freshman Daniel Tulchinskiy doubled up their counterparts at #1 doubles 8-4 in both matches. Vyshyvanyuk also came out on top of a 6-2, 6-4 decision atop the singles lineup at Cornell before defeating the 24th-ranked player in the region 6-2, 7-5 at Grinnell.

In the morning match Lake Forest junior Jacob Tilton and sophomore Eduardo Manuitt won 8-2 at #2 doubles while senior Oliver Gallego and freshman Kyle Lassen blanked the Rams' #3 team 8-0.

Lassen was the first to finish in singles, posting a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #6, and senior Zach Cho followed with a match-clinching 6-4, 6-2 win at #3. Tilton and Manuitt did not drop a game at #4 and #5, respectively, and Tilton rolled 6-0, 6-1 at #2.

The closest loss for the Foresters at Grinnell was at #2 singles, where Tulchinski dropped the first set 6-2, took the second 6-1, and fell 10-7 in the third set super tiebreaker.

The Foresters finished the first day of MWC play with an overall record of 7-8. Cornell fell to 6-10 while Grinnell improved to 6-9.

Lake Forest will host conference matches against Illinois College and Monmouth College next Saturday.
