Foresters Split 8-1 Decisions to Start Spring Break Trip

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team fell 8-1 to Ohio Northern University Monday morning before prevailing by the same score over Wabash College that night on the Foresters' first day of competition in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Junior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk earned Lake Forest's only point in the morning with a hard-fought 6-2, 7-6 (9-7), (11-9) triumph at the top of the singles lineup.

Vyshyvanyuk and freshman Daniel Tulchinskiy defeated Wabash's top tandem 8-5 to give the Foresters a sweep of Monday night's doubles matches. Senior Zach Cho and freshman Kyle Lassen had already prevailed 8-2 at #2 and junior Jacob Tilton had teamed up with sophomore Eduardo Manuitt for an 8-3 victory at #3.

Tulchinskiy split 6-2 decisions in the first two sets at #2 singles before coming out on top 10-5 in the third set super tiebreaker and the match was clinched by Vyshyvanyuk's 6-4, 6-2 win at #1.  Tilton also went to a third set super tiebreaker in his 6-2, 3-6, (10-4) win at #4 while Manuitt took the first set 6-3 and the second 6-4 at #5 and Lassen posted a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory at #6.

The split left Lake Forest with a 4-3 record on the season. Ohio Northern improved to 8-3 and Wabash fell to 3-4.

The Forester men's and women's tennis teams will take on Pfeiffer University Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 (ET).
