Foresters Finish Up 2019 with MWC Doubles Tournaments

Sophomore Aidan Burke and junior Chase Garber were the runners-up at #2 doubles on Sunday at the Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments.

Burke and Garber defeated their counterparts from Monmouth College 8-3 in the quarterfinals and the #2 tandem from Lawrence University 8-5 to reach the championship match. There they were knocked off 8-3 by Grinnell.

Forester seniors Matt Kacyn and Joe Bove were doubles partners for the first time on Sunday and posted an 8-2 quarterfinals victory over Lawrence University at the top spot in the lineup. In the next round they gave the eventual champions their toughest test of the tournament but fell 8-5.

Freshmen Carson Chen and Mawande Mayiga were defeated in the quarterfinals at #3 but rebounded with a victory in the semifinals of the consolation bracket. They were eventually edged out 8-7 (7-5) in the final.

The Foresters finished the 2019 season with a 12-10 overall record and tied for second in the MWC standings at 6-2 in the league. They qualified for the four-team MWC Tournament for the fifth year in a row but were defeated 6-2 by Lawrence University in the semifinals on Friday.
