Three Foresters Reach Semifinals in Singles at MWC Individual Tournaments

Senior Joe Bove, junior Chase Garber, and freshman Mawande Mayiga advanced to their respective semifinal rounds in singles on Saturday at the Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments in Madison, Wisconsin.

Seeded fourth at the event, Bove outlasted the fifth-seeded player from St. Norbert College 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 at #3 before falling to the eventual champion. Garber, the third-seeded player at #4, rolled 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals before being edged out 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the next round. Lake Forest owned the number four seed at #6, where Mayiga was added to the lineup because of an injury and prevailed 6-2, 6-1 in the quarters. Like Bove, he was eliminated by the eventual champion.

Forester senior Matt Kacyn, sophomore Aidan Burke, and freshman Matthew Pawlowski were defeated in the quarterfinals but went on to reach the consolation final at #1, #2, and #5, respectively.

The doubles portion of the event will be played on Sunday.
