The Foresters defeated Catholic University 8-1 and Godon College 6-3 on Thursday to finish 3-2 during their Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Lake Forest swept Catholic in doubles to start the day. Senior Joe Bove and freshman Carson Chen rolled to an 8-1 victory at #3, sophomores Aidan Burke and Chase Garber prevailed 8-3 at #2, and the Foresters' top tandem of senior Matt Kacyn and sophomore Brant Christensen defeated their counterparts 8-5.

Forester freshman Matthew Pawlowski's 6-2, 6-3 triumph at #6 was the first singles match to be completed and the team win was clinched by Burke, who did not drop a game at #2. After the Cardinals earned the point at #3, Kacyn finished off his 6-2, 6-1 victory at #1. Christensen took the first set 6-1 and the second 6-0 at #5 and Garber doubled up his opponent 6-3 in both sets at #4.

Gordon had just five players available so Lake Forest won the points at #3 doubles and #6 singles by forfeit.

The other two doubles matched were split with Burke and Garber posting an 8-4 triumph at #2.

After the Fighting Scots won at #3 singles, Christensen won both sets 6-3 at #5 and Garber clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at #4. The teams split the third set super-tiebreakers that were needed to decide the winners at #1 and #2. Lake Forest's victory came from Kacyn, who edged out Gordon's top player 6-4, 4-6, (10-8).

The Foresters improved to 5-7 on the season while Catholic fell to 2-5 and Gordon to 1-7.

Lake Forest will have eight days to prepare for its next match, a non-conference contest at Aurora University on Friday, March 22.
