Freshman Mawande Mayiga prevailed in singles in his collegiate debut but Lake Forest was doubled up 6-3 by Elmhurst College Saturday night in the 2019 season opener for both teams.
Mawande's 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory at #5 closed out the contest and was the second of two Forester singles triumphs. The other came at #3 from senior Joe Bove, who took the first set 6-4 and the second 6-1.
The match began with Elmhurst taking two of three in doubles. The Foresters' lone win came at #1, where senior Matt Kacyn and sophomore Brant Christensen rolled 8-2.
The contest was played at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff, which will also be the site of Lake Forest's match-up with North Central College next Saturday evening at 6:00.
