Freshman Louis Payne was one of three players to drop just one game on the evening as the Forester men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff Saturday night.
Payne and fellow freshman Brant Christensen defeated their #3 doubles counterparts 8-1 to give the home team a 3-0 lead going into singles play. Freshman Brett O'Brien and junior Matt Kacyn had shut out the Warriors' top tandem 8-0 and sophomore Nick Zazove had combined with classmate Chase Garber on an 8-2 victory at #2.
Zazove took both sets 6-0 at the top spot in the singles lineup while Payne did the same at the bottom. O'Brien posted a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at #2 and Kacyn won 6-0, 6-1 at #3. Garber's 6-2, 6-3 victory was the closest result of the evening and Christensen prevailed 6-2, 6-0 at #5.
Lake Forest is now 2-0 on the young season. It was the first match of the year for Wisconsin Lutheran.
The Foresters will play at the Racine Tennis Club next Saturday against host Carthage College at 9:00 a.m. and Edgewood College at 12:30 in the afternoon.
