Two Foresters Find Success in Singles at ITA Regional Championships

Junior Dan Pivonka reached the round of 32 while freshman Nick Zazove won three times in the consolation bracket at this weekend's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Pivonka took both sets 6-2 in his victory over Fontbonne University's Sebastian Culton in the opening round on Friday. He then defeated Phillip Gruber of Case Western Reserve University in the round of 64 later in the day. His run finally ended in the round of 32 with a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Luke Tsai of the University of Chicago.

After dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Freddy Daum of Case Western Reserve in the round of 128 on Friday, Zazove won three times in the consolation bracket on Saturday. He posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the round of 64, a 6-2, 6-0 win in the round of 32, and a 6-4, 7-5 triumph in the round of 16.

Pivonka and Zazove also competed in doubles but were defeated in their first two matches.

The Forester men's tennis team will resume play in the spring and begin the dual match portion of the 2016-17 schedule in February.
