Foresters Sweep Knox and Illinois College, Clinch Spot in MWC Tournament

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team posted 9-0 victories at Knox College at Illinois College on Saturday. The Foresters are now on a five-match winning streak and have secured a berth in the 2015 Midwest Conference Tournament.

The closest of the nine Forester victories at Knox was at #1 doubles, where freshman Dan Pivonka and junior John Snider edged out their opponents 8-6. Junior Mike Riley and sophomore Dragan Trivanovic had prevailed 8-1 at #2 doubles while sophomore Ellis Lora-Arceo and freshman Nick Rehm did not lose a game at #3.

Lake Forest dominated singles play, winning 72 of 82 games. Lora-Arceo was the first to finish, posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3. Rehm won every game again at #5 and Riley routed his counterpart from Knox 6-1, 6-2 at #4. Trivanovic triumphed 6-1, 6-0 at #6, Snider 6-2, 6-1 at #2, and Pivonka 6-0, 6-2 at #1.

The scores were even more lopsided at Illinois College, where an 8-1 victory by Riley and Trivanovic at #1 doubles was the closest match. Lora-Arceo and Rehm won 8-0 at #2, as did junior Jordan Stoler and senior Derek Schaltz at #3.

Pivonka, Snider, Lora-Arceo, and Rehm did not lose any games at #1 through #4, respectively. Stoler also won 6-0, 6-0 at #5 and Schaltz prevailed by the same score at #6.

The victories improved Lake Forest's overall record to 13-10 MWC mark to 7-1. Knox fell to 3-19 overall and 2-6 in the league while Illinois College remained winless after 15 matches, including nine in conference play.

The Foresters will close out the regular season at Monmouth College Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
