Foresters Sweep Concordia Wisconsin and Albion in Home Opener

Playing in its first home matches of the season, the Lake Forest College men's tennis team defeated visiting Concordia University Wisconsin 7-2 and Albion College 5-4 on Saturday. Forester junior Anthony Mykhaylovskyy was 4-0 on the day in singles and doubles combined.

Mykhaylovskyy started the morning with an 8-1 victory at #3 doubles with junior Derek Schaltz. The Foresters won all three doubles matches with freshman Dragan Trivanovic and sophomore John Snider coming out on top of an 8-4 decision at #2 and junior Anthony Warren and freshman Ellis Lora-Arceo prevailing 8-6 at #1.

Trivanovic was the first to finish in singles and his 6-3, 6-2 triumph at #3 gave the Foresters a 4-0 lead. Lake Forest's victory was clinched when Snider finished off his 6-1, 6-0 win at #4. Mykhaylovskyy took both sets 6-2 at #5 and senior Jerry Wang won 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), (10-8) at #6.

The Falcons closed out the contest with victories at the top two spots in the singles lineup.

Concordia Wisconsin and Albion played in between the Foresters' two matches and Albion posted a 9-0 victory.

Nearly every match between Albion and Lake Forest could have gone either way, including all three of the Foresters' victories in doubles. Mykhaylovskyy and Schaltz edged out their opponents 9-7 at #3 doubles and Trivanovic and Snider won 8-6 at #2. Warren and Lora-Arceo needed an 8-6 win in the tiebreaker to defeat Albion's top tandem 9-8.

The Britons earned their first point of the match at #1 singles and trimmed the Forester lead to 3-2 with another win at #4. Mykhaylovskyy eeked out a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory at #5 but the visitors tied the match with triumphs at #6 and #2. The final match out on the courts was at #3 singles, where Trivanovic matched Mykhaylovskyy with his fourth win of the day, a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 decision.

Lake Forest evened its record on the season at 2-2 while Albion fell to 1-2.

The Foresters will compete in the Warhawk Invitational next weekend and will begin with a match against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Friday at 4:00 p.m. Lake Forest will then take on Wheaton College at 12:30 and host University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 4:30 Saturday afternoon.
