Foresters Split Matches at Grinnell College

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team split a pair of matches at Grinnell College on Saturday, falling 8-1 to the hosts before defeating Knox College 5-4. Freshman John Snider won both of his matches against the Prairie Fire.

Snider and junior Anthony Mykaylovskyy did not lose a game in their 8-0 victory at #3 doubles. However, Knox won both of the other doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead.

Snider also blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles to even the contest. Senior John Adams gave the Foresters the lead when Knox's #1 singles player retired with Adams leading 6-0, 5-0 and junior Jerry Wang won 6-1, 6-1 at #5. Freshman Mike Riley fell 6-3 in the first set at #2 singles but won the second 6-2 and the third 6-3 to clinch the match for the Foresters.

Lake Forest and Grinnell, the 14th-ranked team in the Central Region, played earlier in the day and the visitors' only victory came at #1 singles, where Adams won the first set 6-4 and was leading 5-3 in the second when his opponent retired.

The Foresters are now 1-4 on the season. Grinnell raised its record to 8-3 and Knox fell to 4-4.

Lake Forest will continue its weekend in Iowa at Cornell College on Sunday. The match will begin at 10:00 a.m.
