Forester Athletes of the Week: Nov. 8

Junior forward Rayan Khalid of men's soccer and senior goalkeeper Hannah Turnage of women's hockey were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Khalid scored two game-winning goals in the team's two games in the Midwest Conference Tournament this weekend and helped send the Foresters to the NCAA Tournament over the weekend. Khalid scored three goals (two of them being game-winners) during the tournament. In the team's Friday game against Knox College, Khalid scored twice—the first off a header to put the Foresters on the board and bring the score to 2-1 and his second during the game's second overtime, securing the win and advancing Lake Forest to the championship game. In the final against Grinnell College, Khalid scored the game-winner from 50 yards away with 22 seconds remaining in regulation.

Turnage turned away 48 of 49 shots on goal from the second-ranked team in the nation during the Foresters' 1-0 loss at Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday. Her save total on the day matched the seventh-highest single-game mark in program history.

The Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff on Tuesdays. This is the first time in his career Khalid has been named Forester Athlete of the Week. Turnage earned the award once before on November 30, 2021.
