Lake Forest Beats Monmouth 3-1, Earns Second Conference Win

The Forester men's soccer team defeated Monmouth College 3-1 on Saturday.

Sophomore Eric Rodriguez got the scoring started for the Foresters in the 13th minute of play; he was assisted on the play by freshman Brett Klemes. Klemes hit a beautiful cross kick over to Roriguez, whose quick foot was able to shoot the ball straight passed the Monmouth goalkeeper. A Monmouth defender got his foot on the ball but did nothing to stop the ball's trajectory into the net. It was Rodriguez's first goal of the season.

The second and game-winning goal of the game came with less than 10 minutes left of play in the first half when junior Sam Bickersteth connect with freshman Nico Correa Munoz to put the Foresters up 2-0.

Early in the second half, the Fighting Scots put up a goal of their own, but the Foresters scored the their third and final goal not long after and sealed their victory. Freshman Mateus Lima had checked in to the came 50 seconds prior to scoring the goal.

The Foresters had 10 shots in the first period and 15 in total, and Rodriguez led the team in shots on goal with three. Lake Forest also had the advantage in corner kicks with eight to Monmouth's one. 

Lake Forest earned their second conference win with their victory over Monmouth. They are now 3-6-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play. Monmouth moves to 2-5-2 and 0-1.

The Foresters take to the field against Beloit College on Tuesday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m. for their next game.
