Forester Athletes of the Week: Sept. 27

Forester Athletes of the Week: Sept. 27

Juniors Mary Gegen of volleyball and Szymon Mocarski of men's soccer were named Forester Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Gegen racked up 39 kills and led Lake Forest to a 2-1 record last week. After finishing Tuesday's three-set triumph over Wheaton with six kills and seven digs, she posted a pair of double-doubles on Friday as the Foresters split a pair of five-set thrillers, falling to Benedictine and defeating Elmhurst. In addition to her 33 kills and 26 digs, Gegen added four aces and seven blocks in the two matches combined.

Mocarski held the No. 5 team in the nation to no goals in the first 45 mins at North Park on Wednesday. (He only played the first half). He also made some big saves to help us win 2-1 on the road against a much improved Lawrence team on Saturday. Mocarski now owns a 0.50 goals against average and .900 save percentage on the year.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff. Gegen has earned Forester Athlete of the Week once before in her sophomore year. This is the first time Mocarski has earned the distinction; he was also named Midwest Conferece Performer of the Week on Monday.
