Junior goalkeeper Jan Roessler earned his third shutout of the season and a pair of players scored their first career goals in Lake Forest's 3-0 victory over Cornell College at home on Sunday.
Roessler's goals against average on the season dropped to 0.94, the best mark in the Midwest Conference.
The home team took an extremely early lead when senior Gaston Aubert took a pass from sophomore Griffin Mitchell in the right side of the box and faked out a pair of defenders on his way to the middle of the field, where he blasted in his team-high seventh score of the season.
The score remained 1-0 until the game's final eight minutes of the contest. A corner kick by sophomore Johnny Presberg bounced in the middle of the box before being headed off the goalie and into the net by senior Jack Carlson with 7:03 on the clock. It was the first career goal for Carlson and the first point for Presberg.
Lake Forest added another insurance goal less than two minutes later. Senior Lucas Geib's free kick was blocked by the defense in front of the goal but the rebound went to Forester sophomore Frank Janicke Permanyer, whose shot stayed low and went into the right side of the goal for his first career score.
The Foresters improved to 4-5-1 overall with a pair of victories during the opening weekend of Midwest Conference play. Cornell fell to 1-7-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will play its final non-conference game of the regular season Wednesday night at Carthage College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.
