Foresters Defeat Westminster to Finish Off Opening Weekend

Senior forward Amar Korac scored to tie the game in the 64th minute and the Lake Forest College men's soccer team went on to prevail 3-1 over visiting Westminster University on Sunday.

Korac converted a penalty kick opportunity at 63:43 for his first goal of the season.

After a scoreless opening half that included several quality opportunities for both teams, the Bluejays came up with the game's first goal at the 49:10 mark.

The official game-winner was scored by junior Alex Armas, who received a well-placed through-ball from freshman midfielder Griffin Mitchell but had his first shot stopped by the Westminster goalie. He connected with his left foot on the rebound, however, and the ball rolled into the goal before the Bluejay defenders could get to it.

Looking for an insurance goal, the Foresters struck one more time with 3:55 to play in the contest. A cross from sophomore midfielder Joao Godoy went toward junior forward Lucas Geib in the middle of the box. The ball bounced around off a few players before Geib gained control of it and blasted it past the goalie for his fourth goal already this year.

Lake Forest outshot the visitors 16-8 on the day and Forester sophomore goalkeeper Jan Roessler made one save and several other scoring chance-preventing plays to earn the victory in his first game of the season.

The Foresters are now 2-0-0 this year after preventing Westminster from beginning its season with a win.

Lake Forest will travel to Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Wednesday for its next contest. Gametime at Carroll University will be 7:00 p.m.
