Wheaton Edges Out Foresters in NCAA Tournament Rematch

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 1-0 at Wheaton College Tuesday night despite outshooting the Thunder 19-12 in the contest.

The home team scored the only goal of the night with 4:19 to play in the opening half.

Wheaton attempted eight shots to the Foresters' five in the game's first 45 minutes. Both goalkeepers made three saves in the period.

The Foresters outshot the Thunder 14-4 after halftime and had eight corner kick opportunities during that time. Four of the shots were on target but turned away by the Wheaton goalie.

Lake Forest sophomore goalkeeper Tero Elias had four saves in the contest.

The game was a rematch of the first round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Tournament. Wheaton prevailed 3-2 in that contest.

The Foresters are now 5-5-0 while Wheaton improved to 2-4-3.

Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play Saturday evening at Lawrence University. The game will begin at 5:00.
