Foresters Hold on to Defeat Cornell, Improve to 2-0-0 in MWC

Junior forward Seton Trostle's second-half goal gave the Foresters the lead for good as the Lake Forest College men's soccer team hosted and defeated Cornell College 3-2 on Saturday.

Trostle score his scond goal of the season at the 57:37 mark to put the Foresters ahead 2-1. Senior Ellis Rutili added what proved to be an important insurance goal with 13:25 to play in the contest. It was also his second score of the year. 

Cornell pulled back to within a goal after converting a penalty kick opportunity just 76 seconds later but was unable to complete the comeback. 

Lake Forest led 1-0 at halftime, thanks to senior Colin Jackson's second goal of the season with just 53 seconds remaining in the period. Rutilli assisted on the score. 

The Rams tied the game at the 52:44 mark, setting up Trostle's go-ahead goal less than five minutes later.

Forester sophomore goalkeeper Elvin Husetovic made three first-half saves and earned the victory in his first decision of the season.

Lake Forest out-shot 9-3 in the first half and 9-2 in the final 45 minutes.

The victory evens the Foresters overall record at 4-4-0 and the team is now 2-0-0 in Midwest Conference play. Cornell fell to 2-4-2 overall and 0-3-0 in the league.

Lake Forest will continue MWC play on Sunday against visiting Grinnell College. The game will begin at 11:00 a.m.
