The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 3-0 by visiting Macalester College, the 22nd-ranked team in the country according to D3soccer.com, on Friday. It was the opening game of the 2016 Associated Colleges of the Midwest Soccer Showcase.
The Foresters were out-shot 6-4 in the opening period and trailed 1-0 at halftime. The home team then attempted 15 shots to the Scots' three in the final 45 minutes but were outscored 2-0 during that time. Three of their 15 shots after halftime were on goal but saved by the Macalester goalkeeper.
The visitors doubled their lead at the 73:36 mark and tacked on an additional insurance goal on a penalty kick at 85:07.
Lake Forest fell to 1-3-0 on the season whlie Macalester improved to 3-0-1.
The Foresters will host Coe College in their other ACM Soccer Showcase game Saturday morning at 10:30. Macalester will take on Lawrence University at the same time.
