Foresters Rout Ripon to Begin MWC Play

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team posted a 6-1 victory at Ripon College on Saturday in the Midwest Conference opener for both squads. Senior midfielder Cesar Sandoval closed out the scoring with his first goal of the season.

Sandoval's unassisted score at 71:08 gave the Foresters their first six-goal game of the season. They have now scored five or more goals in four games for the first time in 20 years.

Lake Forest's first two goals were scored by sophomore midfielder Finnian Bunta. He scored for the third time this season just 81 seconds into the game and added his fourth at 41:13. Freshman forward Gaston Aubert assisted Bunta's second score.

The Foresters out-shot the home team 7-5 in the first half and led 2-0 after 45 minutes of play.

Sophomore defender Elyas Ingram assisted on the second score of the season for senior midfiedler Themis Mourikes at 50:44 and sophomore forward John Cappuccitti netted a goal for the sixth game in a row at 65:53. Junior midfielder Ellis Rutili added his fifth of the season at 69:03 and Sandoval tacked on the final Forester goal two minutes later.

Ripon got on the scoreboard at the 73:19 mark.

Lake Forest had an 11-5 advantage in shots in the second half.

Forester sophomore goalkeeper Josh Geiger made six saves in his second career start.

Lake Forest is now 5-1-0 and Ripon 3-1-1 on the season.

The Foresters will continue MWC play next Saturday at Knox College. The contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
